Product Description:


The organic substances in sewage, whether in the process of chemical oxidation or biological oxidation, consume oxygen. The more organic substances in wastewater, the more oxygen is consumed. There is a positive proportion between the two.  Therefore, the oxygen consumed by the oxidation of sewage with chemical agents is called COD(chemical oxygen demand), and the oxygen consumed by the oxidation of microorganisms in sewage is called BOD(biochemical oxygen demand).  The value of COD includes BOD.

Traditionally, COD(chemical oxygen demand) basically means all the organic matter in sewage, and BOD(biochemical oxygen demand) is the organic matter that can be biodegraded in sewage. The higher the BOD index, the more organic pollutants in the water, the more serious the pollution.  Therefore, the difference between COD and BOD can represent the organic matter that cannot be biodegraded in sewage.

For the same water quality, COD is greater than BOD as long as there is no measurement error.  At the same time, the ratio of B/C was used to characterize the biodegradability of sewage.  In general, if the ratio is greater than 0.3 in urban domestic sewage, it indicates that the sewage has good biodegradability.  The smaller the ratio, the worse the biodegradability.
