Each process has an unusual mission in sewage treatment. The most common treatment process consists of aerobic reaction tank and anaerobic reaction tank. Digestion reaction bacteria and denitrification reaction bacteria can be obtained by adding bacteria or self-propagation to complete the whole conversion process:
Digestion reaction
Nitrification is completed by aerobic autotrophic microorganisms. Under aerobic condition, inorganic nitrogen is used as nitrogen source to convert NH4+ into NO2-, and then oxidized into NO3-. The nitrification process can be divided into two stages. In the * stage, nitrifiers convert ammonia nitrogen into nitrite (NO2-), and in the * second stage, nitrifiers convert nitrite into nitrate (NO3-).
Denitrification reaction
Denitrification is a process in which denitrifiers reduce nitrite nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen to gaseous nitrogen (N2) under anoxic conditions. Denitrifiers are heterotrophic microorganisms, mostly facultative bacteria. In the state of anoxia, they use oxygen in nitrate as electron acceptor and organic matter (BOD component in sewage) as electron donor to provide energy and be stabilized by oxidation.
