How to solve the problem of sludge floating?

Sludge upfloating is a symptom of problems in the operation of the biochemical system of a sewage treatment plant. If problems cannot be investigated in a timely manner and precise policies can be implemented, serious negative effects may occur on the biochemical system. When the sewage plant finds the sludge floating, it takes immediate measures such as sludge scavenging, hydraulic fracturing and PAC injection to ensure that the effluent meets the standard. At the same time, by observing SV30, SVI and sludge floating characteristics, it quickly determines the cause of sludge floating and completely solves the problem. This paper puts forward some suggestions on how to quickly analyze the causes and emergency treatment when the sewage treatment plant encounters the sludge floating problem, which can provide certain reference for the sewage treatment plant operation personnel with limited conditions or insufficient experience to quickly deal with the problem.

1. Solution to sludge floating

(1) Increase the sludge discharge effort, shorten the residence time of sludge in the secondary sedimentation tank, reduce MLSS, and shorten the sludge sludge age. By reducing the concentration of MLSS, the situation of sludge floating can be effectively improved.

(2) Find the right time to replace the aeration disk. The sludge floating in the anoxic section is mainly caused by the aeration disc falling off. Therefore, the aeration disc needs to be repaired and replaced in the final radical cure. The phenomenon of sludge floating in the anoxic section is almost invisible.

(3) Under the condition that there is a certain amount of TN and ammonia nitrogen in the effluent, the aeration intensity should be appropriately reduced.
